Born in Sri Lanka, Johann overcame many challenges on his journey to completing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Honours) at the Imperial College of London. He subsequently launched his career as a trainee engineer at the State Engineering Corporation of Sri Lanka before switching to finance with the DFCC Bank in Sri Lanka. Upon migrating to Australia, Johann completed a Master’s degree in Banking and Finance at the University of New South Wales. Before joining Arowana, he was the Chief Risk Ratings Officer at Equifax and before then, a Director at Fitch Ratings covering public and private credit ratings of Australasian corporations. He also previously worked as a relationship manager at ANZ Institutional Bank in Sydney and as a credit research analyst at ING Investment Management.
At Arowana, Johann has applied his experience in data analytics and credit and risk research to a broad spectrum of companies and investments. He led the successful exit of Arowana’s private credit investment in Lucky Bay Port, delivering returns in excess of target and was a key member of the award-winning hyperturnaround team for VivoPower.
Johann has recently commenced his PhD in the School of Mathematics at the University of Sydney. Aside from his doctoral studies, Johann enjoys spending time with his young family.
