In the Philippines, low-value plastic waste sachets, packaging, bags has few buyers and no obvious destination other than landfill or the ocean. Green Antz changes the equation by converting this plastic into construction materials: eco-bricks, eco-pavers, and concrete blocks that are used in housing, public infrastructure, and commercial development.
The company operates a social franchise model through more than 36 EcoHubs, each acting as a community collection and processing point. Volunteers — organised into 'colonies' — gather plastic waste from neighbourhoods and waterways, creating both environmental impact and local livelihoods.
Green Antz's partners include Ayala Land, Nestlé, Procter & Gamble, Colgate-Palmolive, Shell, and AboitizPower. In 2022, it was named Pollution Reduction Initiative of the Year by Environmental Finance — one of the few times a Filipino social enterprise has received a global sustainability award of this calibre.
